APT Presentations

APT Presentations works with independent producers to manage the national public television distribution of programs offered through the APT Exchange service. Its experienced staff oversees each step of the distribution process, providing producers with guidance and advice to maximize program carriage and impact.

From program development to submission, evaluation of funders and satellite uplink to marketing and PR strategies, APT Presentations coordinates and manages all services required for the successful distribution of programs to U.S. public television.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
  • Provide consultation regarding distribution to the public television system, advise on best practices to achieve maximum carriage; create and execute a program release strategy
  • Coordinate all in-house services for distribution of the program
  • Assume responsibility for editorial oversight and compliance with APT editorial guidelines
  • Provide oversight for funding compliance with APT guidelines and federal regulations
  • Advise producer on underwriting, in-kind contributors, credits, and questions related to off-air benefits or value-add opportunities for underwriters
  • Respond to requests for underwriter support letters
  • Provide guidance on contractual requirements related to distribution including rights, releases, exclusivity, insurance, music cue sheets and license extensions
  • Advise about public media distribution opportunities including multicast (Create, World), and online platforms (Passport, Media Manager, Linear Live Streaming)
  • Coordinate with Create and World programming teams, when applicable, for successful distribution on those channels
  • Advise on related merchandise for pledge use, on-air offers, retail, and online distribution
  • Offer advance notice of sponsorship opportunities at APT’s annual meeting ‘APT Fall Marketplace’
  • Advise on additional strategic services to enhance program impact and carriage, i.e., station relations, community engagement, public relations, events, and social media campaigns
  • Provide referrals to experienced vendors and consultants
  • Advise on non-public television ancillary distribution opportunities, including digital platforms, educational, non-theatrical, international and transportation
PROGRAMMING SERVICES
  • Screening and evaluation of submitted program material
  • Coordinate timely delivery of all required assets for the formal presentation and offer of the program to station program managers
  • Create program offer materials including descriptions, information about rights, funders, social media identifiers, and ancillary products. The formal presentation to programmers is via a password-protected online video conference or on-site screening and includes a personal introduction, explanation of the program, a 2-3 minute video clip (:60-:90 for returning series) and written materials
  • Review production credits and program packaging for compliance with APT tech specs
  • Review underwriting credits for compliance with ptv guidelines
  • Review product offer tags for compliance with ptv guidelines
  • Review website mentions for compliance with ptv guidelines
  • Screen content of each episode for compliance with ptv guidelines
  • Identify flaggable content, advise on edits as required, communicate flags to stations
  • Advise on appropriate TV rating
OPERATIONS SERVICES
  • Provide password protected, on-line access to the program offer and video for programmers to preview
  • Ensure timely distribution of program materials to the public television system via HD satellite feed and/or digital file delivery
  • Ensure program materials are available to stations throughout contract period via file delivery
  • Provide technical guidance on programs, packaging elements, promo and product offer tag production
  • Provide referrals for captioning vendors and post-production facilities and advise on available discounts
  • Provide quotes and timelines for edits to content, refeeds and conversions
  • Provide tech specs for Passport/Media Manager delivery, if applicable
COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES
  • Create (from supplier-provided materials) an electronic press kit (EPK) for station use:
    Program Description
    Fact sheet
    Press release
    Episode descriptions (if applicable)
    Photography
    Other items as available: Awards, host biography, guest biographies, discography, recipes, templates, video clips, ancillary product information, etc. Social media identifiers

  • Distribute EPK to stations via APT website
  • Coordinate the distribution of program information and assets to the public television system via public media intra-communication systems
  • Include program listing in program catalog at APTonline.org
  • Include program in the APT monthly programming newsletter Tuned In
  • Cross promote and recommend scheduling hooks to stations
  • Create and distribute an e-card to stations to announce the release, with links to program information, video and assets at APTonline.org
  • Make program press materials available to TV listings services
  • Serve as liaison with station publicists for duration of license period
  • Advise on marketing and promotional opportunities within the public media system
  • Coordinate with outside publicity and public relations vendors for consumer promotion, as needed
  • If applicable, coordinate with Create and World teams regarding promotional materials
CARRIAGE
  • Provide station voting results and analysis after program offer
  • Provide US Coverage Report based on voting results, indicating amount of country covered by licensees voting “yes” and “maybe”
  • Provide 24/7 access to carriage reporting, viewer demographics and other carriage data via the APT website for first year of license period. Contract may be renewed beyond initial year for an additional fee
  • Provide assistance in analyzing carriage and ratings data
  • Provide embed code to producer to create a “Where to Watch” button that shows local broadcast dates/times via a zip code search on the producer’s program website
