Isobel Hewitt is an affluent pensioner with a young lover. Duncan Golf is a GP in the Village of Malham Bridge who is rumored to be having an affair. When the corpses of Isobel and Duncan are discovered alongside one another by the river, Barnaby and Troy embark on an investigation which uncovers a deep vein of resentment running through the village. Episodes #701 & 702 – "The Green Man"
Sgt. Troy (Daniel Casey) sadly leaves the Midsomer team in this episode, though not before having to cope with some dramatic events. Troy wins a promotion to inspector but before he can decide on his future, the Midsomer canal tunnel collapses during a restoration project, revealing ancient human bones with a recent skeleton hidden among them. As Barnaby investigates, Troy is sent to the woods near Midsomer Worthy where Tom (David Bradley - "Argus Filch" in Harry Potter), has been attacked by a group of youths. Then one of the teenagers is caught in a man trap and shot dead. Is Tom responsible? This episode features Henry Cavil (Man of Steel).

Episodes #703 & 704 – "Bad Tidings"
Sergeant Dan Scott (John Hopkins) arrives to work with Barnaby and is thrown straight into a murder investigation in Midsomer Mallow. A squeaking noise heard near the scene of Fiona Thompson's bloodstained body leads police to suspect an odd job man. A prize-winning author is murdered on the eve of the Midsomer Literary Festival. Barnaby and Scott discover the seemingly highbrow literary community of Midsomer St. Michael is in fact a hotbed of corruption, sexual scandal and financial mismanagement. But before they can discover which of their suspects is telling the truth, the death toll begins to rise.

A barman from the "Maid in Splendour" pub is shot dead as he walks near a ruined cottage in the woods. Barnaby and Scott discover a clash of cultures at the pub, between locals and new money, and between charming old landlord Michael Bannerman (William Gaunt) and his bullish son Stephen. But when Stephen, too, is murdered, past passions become as important as current enemies.

The revival of a traditional festival at Midsomer Parva ends in tragedy when the curate is burned alive inside a straw effigy of a woman. Then his gay lover, Rev Jim Hale (Jonathan Hackett) dies too, a victim of apparent spontaneous combustion, in front of a severed pig's head on the altar. Amid rumors of witchcraft, some villagers blame Manor owner and orgy host Alan Clifford (Keith Barron), who has a secret of his own.

Episodes #713 & 714 – "Ghosts of Christmas Past"
Barnaby looks forward, with reservations, to entertaining his in-laws for Christmas. Meanwhile, exactly nine years after the suicide of Ferdy Villiers, his family and their guests arrive at the somewhat dilapidated Villiers home to celebrate the festive season. However, not everyone present is imbued with the holiday spirit and the already rather tense atmosphere begins to disintegrate even further when it becomes apparent that someone in the household is all too aware that certain family members have dark secrets to hide. When what initially appears to have been an accident is revealed to be murder, Barnaby and Scott discover that they must first unravel what really happened in the past in order to resolve the present.
