Short Form Video:
Legendary pilot Robert A. “Bob” Hoover is often credited as one of history’s greatest aviators. His airplane, Sweetie Face, is on display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington DC. FLYING THE FEATHERED EDGE: THE BOB HOOVER PROJECT chronicles his storied career, from his years as a U.S. Army Air Force fighter pilot in WWII to his daring feats as a civilian test pilot.
In his later career as an air show performer, Bob became known for shutting his engines off and “feathering” his propellers. He would then perform a graceful pattern of loops and rolls, a routine never before or since replicated. Hoover performed in front of more people, in more countries, and in more aircraft than any other pilot.
Bob’s influence on generations of aviators includes Harrison Ford, Dick and Burt Rutan, Carroll Shelby, Neil Armstrong, General Bud Day, and world-premiere air show pilot Sean D. Tucker. Throughout the documentary, these plane enthusiasts discuss and celebrate Bob's many feats. FLYING THE FEATHERED EDGE: THE BOB HOOVER PROJECT preserves the stories, friendships, and legacy of a beloved pilot who greatly influenced the trajectory of the aviation field.
