Description

During the darkest days of the Civil War, a desperate Abraham Lincoln wagered the fate of the Union and freedom for the Southern slaves on the outcome of a single battle. LINCOLN AND LEE AT ANTIETAM - THE COST OF FREEDOM vividly brings to life the bloodiest single day in American history, the Battle of Antietam. The program, narrated by Ron Maxwell, director of the epic Civil War films Gettysburgand Gods & Generals, features dramatic first-person accounts and High Definition commemorative battle footage. In addition, Civil War scholars, including Pulitzer Prize-winner James McPherson (Battle Cry of Freedom)and two-time Lincoln Prize recipient, Allen Guelzo (Lincoln: Redeemer President) outline the political forces, motivations and historical significance of the repulse of General Robert E. Lee's first invasion of the North.
