HOLLYWOOD'S MAGICAL ISLAND: CATALINA is an armchair adventure through time and nature that explores the romantic history of Santa Catalina Island, Hollywood's private playground for the better part of a century.

Using rare archival film and vintage black-and-white stills intercut with interviews of longtime island residents, historians and celebrities, this nostalgic film celebrates Hollywood's golden era. HOLLYWOOD'S MAGICAL ISLAND: CATALINA documents architectural achievements that transformed the island and highlights many of the individuals who figured into its lore including stars of the Big Band Era, players from the Chicago Cubs, and Hollywood personalities like Marilyn Monroe and Bob Hope. The program ends in a visual kaleidoscope of modern day Catalina, an ecological paradise that continues to serve the leisure and entertainment desires of both Hollywood royalty and casual weekend visitors.
