Jack Benny

Escape the troubled times with kings of classic comedy

As the great comedian Milton Berle once said, “Laughter is an instant vacation!” What better way to help viewers escape the nation’s economic woes than with a healthy dose of classic comedy? APT’s programs featuring comedians from television’s golden age shined in January. BOB HOPE: HOLLYWOOD’S BRIGHTEST STAR, JACK BENNY: COMEDY IN BLOOM, BEST OF THE JACK BENNY SHOW and JACKIE GLEASON: GENIUS AT WORK all delivered strong primetime ratings, ranging from a 2.1 to a 1.6 average HH rating for the month. All of these APT programs complemented PBS’s Make ‘em Laugh, and were frequently paired alongside the nationally fed show to help hold the audience. KRMA/Denver, in particular, had a strong night on Jan. 14, leading off with a 4.0 JACK BENNY: COMEDY IN BLOOM before a 3.2 Make ‘em Laugh.
