Gwyneth Paltrow and Friends
to "hit the road" in Spain

MADRID – October 2, 2007 –A dream team heads to Spain to take the road trip of a lifetime for the new prime-time U.S. public television series, Spain…on the Road Again, to air internationally in both English and Spanish.

Behind the wheel is a wealth of talent: Academy Award-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow, super-chef Mario Batali, New York Times food columnist Mark Bittman, and introducing Spanish actress and singer Claudia Bassols.

The premise is simple: the two men, single-minded food- and wine-obsessed fiends, are constantly on the lookout for their next great meal. The two women also like to eat and drink but they have their own agenda: enjoying Spain's infinite other pleasures — museums, shopping, music, spas and nightlife.

Put the four of them on a cross-country trip and the result is a showcase of Spain as it's never been seen before — the intense beauty of Spanish food and culture mixed with all the hazards of male-female relationships and spontaneous, wacky road trip adventures.

Ms. Paltrow, who fell in love with Spain when she lived there as a teenager, is thrilled to get a chance to reunite with her "Spanish family" and see parts of the country she has never seen before. Mr. Batali looks forward to exploring — and explaining — the Spanish culinary scene. Like Paltrow, Batali attended high school outside of Madrid, speaks Spanish fluently, and attributes "learning how to really eat and really drink" to the years he spent there. Mr. Bittman, the superstar food writer of the New York Times and already an award-winning public television host, continues to be a loveable curmudgeon, the Larry David of the kitchen. Spanish native Claudia Bassols will do her best to keep the three Americans straight.

None of the stars will know in advance where they are headed in their fleet of Mercedes vehicles, which will be fitted with Iconix micro cams to capture the trip from the viewpoint of the stars. Executive Producer of the series, Charlie Pinsky of New York's frappé, inc., is keeping the itinerary a closely held secret so the dream team can make its way through Spain unencumbered.

Spain… on the Road Again will be distributed by American Public Television in the United States and will begin airing on PBS stations in Fall 2008.
