The two-part program collection NHK World Specials offers an important look back at World War II and its aftermath. “A-Bomb Survivors and Their Children” chronicles victim Sumiteru Toniguchi's efforts to help second generation A-bomb victims come to terms with radiation poisoning. “Hatred and Forgiveness” tells the story of Philippine President Elpidio Quirino, who chose to pardon Japanese war criminals despite losing family members during the battle of Manila.
