WE ARE WIZARDS explores the world of Harry Potter fans and the fascinating, amusing, and inspiring ways in which they have taken their love of J.K. Rowlings’ book series to a whole new level, honoring the characters and story with their own ideas, passions, and talents.
The film follows the story of bands such as Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Hungarian Horntails (4- and 7-year-old brothers), and The Whomping Willow, who have gained a following playing the Harry Potter-inspired music they call “wizard rock.”
The film also tells about fans such as Melissa Anelli, a former journalist who runs a popular Harry Potter fan website and has written a book about the phenomenon; Brad Neely, an animator who created a hilarious and unauthorized audio track intended to be played while watching the movie; and 14-year-old Heather Lawver, maker of a creative writing website who organized a global boycott against Warner Bros. in the name of Harry Potter fans everywhere. WE ARE WIZARDS is an entertaining portrait of creative fans with a common goal: to make their voices heard.
